Many of the engineering students find some courses, including design, technology and practically oriented courses, difficult for several reasons. During their educational phase, most of the instructors lack the necessary practical experience to relate fundamentals to practice and to give real life examples.
As a result, the students cannot relate theory with practice and apply their knowledge to resolve practical problems. Similarly, shortage of computers and latest engineering software used in the industry is a significant problem when trying to integrate practical teaching to a specific course. Some universities cannot set up laboratories because of the shortage of funding and the lack of specialized technicians. These inadequacies result in studentsâ€™ understanding of engineering fundamentals only from theoretical perspective. And, as a result, newly graduate engineers struggle a lot in their job hunting, while employers find it equally difficult to hire right workforce for them.
Therefore, there is an increasing need to create opportunities of crafted short courses and practical leaning avenues for newly graduate engineers to rightly equip them as per the demands of industry skilled workforce and help country overcome the challenges of mounting unemployment especially in Pakistani youth.

200 young engineers will be linked with different organizations and departments. The component will be providing monthly stipend to each intern (maximum three months)
Avenues for increasing engineering job opportunities for Engineers may include formal or informal retraining by employers, joint government-employer, joint autonomous and socially responsible organization-employer programs, government-employer-university training schemes, soft courses to undergraduates from universities, and post-graduate diploma courses to students.
It is vital to ensure that engineering discipline-wise training needs are defined and implemented for right candidates in their respective job industry.
More than 499 professional engineers will be covered each year for training/certification. This will include both online and in place training and certification. In two years, approx 999+ young professional engineers will be covered under this component
The practical training has many benefits to engineering students including familiarizing them with applied engineering work, improving the performance of the students by connecting theory to practice, and equipping them with the necessary skills so that they would be ready for the job, when they graduate out of the educational institutions. After completing the practical training, the industry can also provide feedback, which can reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the students and can lead to refining the material taught and improving the post-graduate trainings in the future. Finally, this type of collaboration can play a major role in reinforcing the relation between the industry and the academic institutions.

Each year 250 professional engineers will be covered, and 500 engineers will be enhancing their skills under this component.
The emergence of the digital technologies and their penetration into all levels of education has challenged higher education institutions to redefine their teaching and research practices and to redesign their organizational infrastructures. The digital technologies are applied in higher education institutions in teaching/learning processes for a variety of purposes: information retrieval from various resources; simulations and multi-media presentations; communication with instructors in- and after classes; communication amongst students; drilling exercises and sample tests; class administration, etc.
Overseas Employment Opportunities through Skilled Workforce
Overseas employment is playing a vital role in reducing the pressure of un-employment at home, besides being a major means of earning foreign exchange in the shape of overseas workers' remittances. Overseas employment is thus, serving as the mainstay for the national economy, by providing much needed financial outlay for debt servicing, imports bill, alleviation of poverty, development projects and economic activities.
